The world of triathlon is about to change

 The sport has only been in the olympics 5 times

But the way we watch it is changing

the world triathlon series for the longest time was the only time we saw the best athletes compete

where the brownlee brothers and xavier gomez stamped their authority

in the last few years triathlon has been changing

The odd thing about triathlon is the largest business, Ironman, is based around participation.

Which it has had huge success in

However arguably triathlon is not a mainstream sport for this reason

they are focused on participartion and not making a good tv product

and wts seemed to never be able ot really capture an audience

in came superleague triathlon

competing with the wts and making super exciting triathlons with a twist

this series was a success

however it had a problem for viewers

it was very rare we saw the best of the best go head to head

if ever

the long distance goats never raced the short distance goats 

if you asked 10 different triathlon fans they may all tell you different goats

that is not good

and the reason for it was simple 

the goats never raced each other

just as in boxing the best rarely fight each other

In comes the PTO 

an investor backed organisation who have implemeneted a structure simlar to grand slams in tennis

large events with big prize money

and most importantly at half iroman distance, so both ironman athletes and olympic athletes can compete against each other

the first event of 2023 was a major success 

pitting three goats jan frodeno, ali brownlee and kristian blummenfelt against each other 

in a thrilling fight ultimatley won by another

but this kind of battle, the best of the best is what is needed for viewership

and they are on the right track
