On Page Turners

Thrillers really do have their own special appeal that thrill that carries you into reading at 3am on a schoolday the ravaging emotions hitting like wave after wave Yet i find myself at times somewhat anti thriller the constant tension, especially if i were to read right before bed, is not ideal and sometimes not what i want this is somewhat of a revelation to me that the best book is not always the one which forces you to turn to the next page if being a "page turner" is not necessarily the best book then what is though. I think where the silence of the lambs and planet earth exist as exceptional forms of media, so too is this true for books. Yet is there more skill in the page turner? At times books that are not page turners feel like a comedian who goes for rounds of applause, rather than laughter. Forgetting their purpose to some extent.

Bet you wish you didn’t quit that thing you were good at now?

I think a lot of us have experienceed being good at something I recetnly read the midnight library It talks follows a girl who, after attempting to commit suicide, gets the chance to live in the lives should could have lived in, if she had made slightly different choices. Didn't quit music- profesional artist didnt quit swimming - olympic gold medalist didnt care about anything - chilling in australia etc etc etc sometimes ive found myself thinking back on things but i think it is an importnat reminder that we make the choices for good reason and this book highlights that we made choices for a reason, sometimes we need to remind ourselves it was the right one Moral books like this are not always the most interesting but Haig is a great author - i actually read and loved How to Stop Time first, and he manages to make the story the focus something i always find important in fiction. it is ok to be preached too but i think the whole point of fiction and why it can be so valuable is t...

La belle sauvage is a great book

an adventure and a chase mixed with fantasy and such a wide context out of two of pullmans latest books that have currently been released it is certainly my favouite and for those fans of water (myself being a large one) the entire coutnry flooding is soemthing of a dream come true a world on water, idealised by youtubers doesnt seem half bad

The greens are cool

they are youutbers i dont even know who is who but they are authors and youtubers who do little videos every week and have some very popular books along with that they have made crash course - an awseome channel ive used to learn about history philosphosy etc this is kind of an ideal life oh i forgot to mention they sold vidcon which they founded

how them did a town with a population in the hundreds end up twinned with Paris

Driving you may notice many towns are "paired" normally you would see a town paried with one of a similar size in another coutnry the idea being that you have a fantasy sanctuary abroad, increasing tourism for both parties and the connectedness of the citizens  it is a nice idea how them did a town with a population in the hundreds end up twinned with Paris, and no not paris some random little town, paris - the captial of frnace the story behind this is a short but funny one it goes that the mayor of Whitwell the twinned town in question emailed the mayor of paris requesting they be twinned he left a note at the bottom stating that no reply would be taken as a yes and, of course, no reply there was

sailing's ticking time bomb

The world of pro sailing is mysterious you can sail with rich people  but "pro athletes" competing for themselves well there are a variety of competitions where the athletes competing are true pros the olympics, ocean race, vendee globe, americas cup, and now sailgp most of these have been established for years, the americas cup old mug is the oldest trophy in sport but sailgp, where many of the goats of sailing compete is extrememly new How has it managed to reach the upper echelon of sialing so quickly, money. Larry ellison, billionarie founder of oracle  has agreed to put in millions ever year in order to keep the league afloat... for now he wants it to become self sustainable Teams make money from sponsorship. but their main source of income for most is prize mmoney, 300k for winning an event and 1million for winning the season. teams like australia with no sponsor rely on this solely for their funding  But for this to be sustained once larry stops his funding sailgp ...

The world of triathlon is about to change

The sport has only been in the olympics 5 times But the way we watch it is changing the world triathlon series for the longest time was the only time we saw the best athletes compete where the brownlee brothers and xavier gomez stamped their authority in the last few years triathlon has been changing The odd thing about triathlon is the largest business, Ironman, is based around participation. Which it has had huge success in However arguably triathlon is not a mainstream sport for this reason they are focused on participartion and not making a good tv product and wts seemed to never be able ot really capture an audience in came superleague triathlon competing with the wts and making super exciting triathlons with a twist this series was a success however it had a problem for viewers it was very rare we saw the best of the best go head to head if ever the long distance goats never raced the short distance goats  if you asked 10 different triathlon fans they may all tell you d...

Game of thrones

Game of thrones is a pretty epic series the first book is slow moving it is not a lee child or a dan brown but it is not meant to be  i loved the dark and light the rough poverty combined with the large castle life for me when reading it the fantasy of being a rich aristocrat or kind or ruler is fufilled. I think ebing an old king is a dream all of us have had at some point  I recently saw people on twitter disregarding these books saying there were no morals involved  so far i think that is not at all the case moral and un moral characters are clear and i think it is useful to have characters not playing by the 'rules' as we might see them nowadays
